Electrostimulation toys are not suitable for everyone. You should not use e-stim vibrators if you have a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, or any other electronic implant. They are also not recommended during pregnancy, or for anyone with epilepsy, heart conditions, or nerve damage. Always read the manufacturer guidelines fully before use, and if you have any medical concerns, speak with a healthcare professional first.
A regular vibrator creates sensation through physical oscillation or rumble from a motor. An e-stim vibrator adds low-level electrical pulses that stimulate nerve endings and muscle tissue directly. The electrical element can produce sensations that range from a light surface tingle to a deeper, rhythmic contraction that feels quite different from vibration alone. Many e-stim vibrators let you adjust or combine both types of sensation.
For e-stim use, always choose non-porous, body-safe materials. Common safe options include:
Avoid porous materials such as rubber, jelly, or latex blends, as these can harbour bacteria and are not appropriate for electrical conduction against the body.
Water-based lubricant is the safest and most universally compatible choice for e-stim toys. It works well with silicone, stainless steel, and ABS surfaces without degrading the material. Avoid silicone-based lubricants with silicone toys, as they can break down the surface over time. Oil-based lubricants are generally not recommended as they can be harder to clean from toy surfaces and may affect conductivity.
Always disconnect the toy from any power source before cleaning. For non-porous surfaces such as stainless steel or ABS plastic, wipe down thoroughly with a toy-safe cleaner or mild soap and warm water, then rinse and dry completely before storing. Silicone components can also be cleaned with soap and water; fully sterilisable stainless steel parts can be boiled or run through a dishwasher on the top rack without detergent if the manufacturer confirms this. Store your toy in a clean pouch or case, away from other toys, to protect the electrical contacts and surface finish.
