Do I really need a dedicated sex toy cleaner, or will soap and water do?

Material matters a lot when choosing a cleaner:

• Silicone, glass, metal, and hard plastic: Most pH-balanced toy sprays and foams work well. Non-motorised silicone, glass, and stainless steel items can also be boiled or run through the dishwasher (top rack, no detergent) for a deeper clean.
• Leather and faux leather: Use a cleaner formulated for leather. Harsh products strip natural oils and cause cracking.
• Latex and rubber: Choose a latex-safe cleaner and avoid oil-based products entirely, as they degrade the material.
• Porous materials (jelly, TPE, TPR): These cannot be fully sterilised, so a toy cleaner helps reduce surface bacteria, but consider upgrading to body-safe non-porous materials where possible.

How do I clean a toy that has a motor or electrical components?

Never submerge a motorised toy in water or cleaning solution unless it is specifically rated as waterproof or submersible by the manufacturer. Instead, spray a small amount of toy cleaner onto a soft cloth or cotton pad and wipe the surfaces thoroughly, avoiding charging ports and seams where liquid could enter. Allow the toy to air dry completely before storing or using again.

How soon after use should I clean my toys and gear?

Clean everything as soon as reasonably possible after play. Allowing bodily fluids or lubricant to sit on a surface gives bacteria and mold a chance to take hold, and dried residue is harder to remove without scrubbing that could damage the material.
